Semaglutide is the generic name for the brand names Ozempic® and Wegovy®. The FDA approved Wegovy® for weight management of weight in adults and children over the age of 12 in June of 2021, and Semaglutide is the first approved drug for chronic weight management in adults with general obesity or overweight since 2014. tirzepatide is a newer class of medication that works the same way, but in many cases can acheive greater weight loss.
